Southern Highlanders" by Horace Kephart. They will be read and reread.

Written in descriptive narrative, Morley's overview of the Carolina Mountians is a bit long-winded and wordy, however, if you can wade through THAT you learn much about the flora,fauna,people and history of Carolina's hills and hollers. Morley's photography is very revealing and often says more than her long, descriptive narratives. I'd recommend it for anyhone interested in the old ways and old days of Carolina's mountaineers. Not as good as "Our Southern Highlanders," but complementary.
