Bravo Nadia Scrieva for such an enlivening series!

The story begins with the grey-haired veteran, master fishing captain Trevain Murphy brooding over the loss of his crew member Leander, whom the rest of the crew affectionately referred to as “Leo.” Trevain wonders if he could possibly be losing his keen sense of reading the usual indicators in the sky, wind, and water that inform him of impending danger. Murphy’s worry stems from the fact that the weather was considerably mild the night he lost his first crew member. There was no splash or yell for help to announce a man overboard, and as the story reads in the book, “It had been a random, quiet, shadowlike loss.”

What Trevain does not realize is that the death of his first crew member signals the beginning of the end of life as he has known it up to this point. As Murphy quietly broods while drinking his beer in the corner of the local strip bar, the next harbinger of change presents itself in the person of Princess Aazuria Vellamo, the next performer to take the stage and the audience by storm.

The instantaneous spark of recognition and attraction with first eye contact across the room between Trevain and Aazuria lies deeper in history than either of them are aware. From the first night of their meeting Trevain feels the need to protect Aazuria, so he offers her and her sisters Corallyn and Elandria, his home to live in for as long as they need. Aazuria tries from the first meeting to tell Trevain about herself, but her life is so fantastically and wildly different than his, that he is not able to comprehend what she is saying without thinking she is joking.

Although Trevain sometimes thinks Aazuria is somewhat strange (and way too young for him) he is still drawn to her by some indescribable emotion that only gets stronger with each passing day. The two of their lives grow ever more close until Trevain finally proposes marriage and Aazuria accepts. When they take a trip to see his mother in the asylum and tell her the news of their engagement, their relationship is seriously threatened when Aazuria recognizes her centuries old friend Alcyone, the mother Trevain knows as Alice.

Find out about the battles they fight, some together, some apart as Trevain and Aazuria reconcile their radically different lifestyles and how their relationship stands up to the scrutiny of totally different cultures.

Readers of paranormal, science fiction, romance, and mythology genera’s will relish this delightful telling of a small nation of Merfolk.

Trevain Murphy, is Captain of a fishing boat who has never had a crew member disappear from his boat in a long time, when one of his crew members becomes missing and then later believed to be dead Trevain becomes extremely depressed. So in an attempt to boost the sprites of his crew he follows them to a local gentleman's club where he makes eye contact with an entertainer named Undina, when the two of them make eye contact Trevain can't keep his eyes off the stage no matter how hard he tries when Undina finishes with her dance and Trevain finishes his beer he finds a tear rolling down the side of his beer, "One tear is acceptable, considering that a man lost his life. One tear is acceptable" Trevain decides.

Undina, also known as Aazuira Princess of an underwater world of mermaids both men and women. After a horrible living situation at the hands of her father she takes matters into her own hands and tries to do everything she can to make her kingdom safe and able to fight off any attacks from the kingdoms enemies. Aazuira knows that she has duties that need to be done but she can't help herself from feeling attached to Trevain, so when Trevain offers to let Aazuira and her sisters stay in his house rather than a hotel she can't refuse even if her sisters think of many reasons why she should.

This book is packed full of wonder characters that are very easy to connect with, the story line flowed with ease, there was action, adventure, romance, mystery as well as a happy ending. If you are looking for a book that will take you on an action filled adventure then this is the book for you.
I love fantasy, science fiction and romance... but normally if I would have seen something on the cover of a book saying "mermaids" ... I would have moved on quickly. Since I just got done reading three books out of the Thirty Minutes to Heartbreak series, also by Nadia Scrieva..... And I was thoroughly entertained for days with that epic fantasy saga (what a fabulous writer!), I cracked this one open.

Starts off with a normal guy, he has a limp and grey hair, and his name is Trevain. He's a captain of a boat in a small Alaskan town that fishes for crab. ( I love that he is a normal guy. ) He is also a really nice guy and invites the captivating young woman he meets, and her sisters to come live with him, after hearing about the fact that they just lost their father.

Aazuria and her sisters are not just your normal captivating young women, they are nobility from an underwater kingdom.

This book was a beautifully written fantasy romance that I couldn't stop reading... almost literally. I slept for four hours and even then I was dreaming about the mermaids. I love how expertly she wove into the story the history of the mermaids and how their bodies worked. I haven't loved stories about mermaids since I was a little girl and now I can't get enough of them! She really described them in such a way that it felt ok to believe there might be an underwater kingdom or two...

There were laugh out loud moments, there were deep philosophical moments that had me thinking about my own life and how I could be growing, there were moments where I cried right along with the Aazuria... or with Visola and her daughter.

The fight scenes were epic.... I can just see the underwater battle scene up on the big screen!

Then there were the twists.... so hard to describe without a spoiler.... just know that twice there were awesome twists that I totally did not see coming.

I would recommend this book to anyone that likes science fiction, fantasy, or romance .... or anyone that would like to read an epic novel that opens up a totally new and unique (and totally awesome, in my opinion) view of mermaids and their history.

I can't wait to read the next book.... and anything else this author writes. She has a way with words that suck you into the story and just won't let go. )
