I've loved the entire Cold Fury series to this point, but Sawyer Bennett took it to another level with Max. This book is by far my favorite in the series so far.

Max Fournier is the new starting goalie for the Carolina Cold Fury. He's worked his way back from injury to earn the starting job and his focus is going to be solely on making sure he keeps that position. Well, you know what they say about best laid plans... Hockey was going to be his sole focus until one night he stops by a convenience store to pick up a snack his trainer won't be too happy about if she finds out about it and ends up finding what could be the biggest distraction of both his career and his life.

Julianne "Jules" Bradley is doing her very best to keep all the balls she's juggling in the air. She recently took sole custody of her young niece and two nephews following the passing of her sister. She's working two jobs, her day job at the nursing home and her second job at a convenience store just to make ends meet. She's doing a pretty good job, but she's losing herself in the process as every ounce of who she is is going into making sure the kids are cared for best they can be.

When Max happens upon Jules in a bit of a difficult situation with some customers at the store, he helps her out and realizes that she's intriguing to him - she's the kind of woman he didn't know he's been looking for. Intriguing to him in the way that yes, he wants to get her into bed, but he also wants to know her. When the extent of what Jules is dealing with is revealed, Max only wants to help her that much more.

As the sparks fly between the two of them, will Max's celebrity come between them or will it be Jules' need to be independent that spells trouble for the couple? And, will there be outside forces that end up causing more trouble than what each of them are dealing with independently?

What I loved about this book is how realistic is was. Everything that happened could easily happen in real life and for me it made me connect with the characters quickly and that much more. The insecurities that Jules has are those that I think anyone in her situation would face and I think Sawyer Bennett did a fantastic job of conveying those insecurities so you could really understand where she was coming from. And, Max. Oh my...all I can say about him is I wish I could find a guy as sweet, sexy and all around awesome as he was.

Kudos Sawyer Bennett - this one is a keeper for sure!

Max A Cold Fury Hockey Novel Carolina Cold Fury Hockey Book 6 edition by Sawyer Bennett Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I loved Max.
This was my favorite book so far in this series. I read it in one sitting, couldn’t put it down.

When Max first meets Jules in a convenience store/gas station he is taken in by her looks. But what shocks him is how instantly his protective instincts take over when she is being harassed. Then a closer look, he notices how stressed and tired she seems to be. When he discovers the three small children she’s responsible for in the back room he’s found the source of her exhaustion. And that just kicks up his want and need to take care of her and the children into overdrive.
After taking in her two nephews and her niece after her sisters death, Jules is struggling to keep it all together. Three young kids that need clothes, shoes, food and a roof over their heads, mean she works two jobs, barters meals, housecleaning and babysitting for her own daycare needs. She is completely overwhelmed and sinking fast.
Until Max her knight in shining armor shows up to save the day. It’s hard for her to accept his help. She’s a strong independent woman, and taking charity does not sit well with her. Not to mention all that comes with him. He’s a local hockey star. A celebrity and all that comes with it. Including the haters, who think she is just out for his money, a gold digger.
Max had such a big heart. He knew going in he was not going to be Jules’s first priority. But he wanted whatever she could give. He knew she was the one. And was willing to take whatever she could give. He was unselfish, giving and loving. He tried to help without being obvious about.
We met some of Max’s family, his mom and his brother Lucas who we’ll see in an upcoming book.
Can’t wait to see what’s coming next.
I’m not sure why I ever let myself get so many books behind in the Cold Fury Hockey series, a series I’ve loved from the very first book. But, I did and now I am trying to make up for lost time. I’m pretty sure I even pre-ordered Max long before it was released, but I just never got around to reading it. Major fail on my part.

Max and Jules were fantastic. He’s the sweetest guy so far in the Cold Fury Hockey series and I swooned so hard over him. He was thoughtful and caring and so darn perfect. Jules is amazing. In a series full of standout, kick ass heroines, she’s near the top of my favorites list. Her niece and nephew are her reason for doing everything and she does such a great job with them, even with as many things as she’s had to give up for them. So not only did this book deliver an awesome romance, it did so with some adorable kids and really special moments with them.

This book was fun and flirty, but also packed some steam. Things between Max and Jules didn’t happen overnight, but instead built over time in a slow way that left me wanting more. Speaking of wanting more, this book made me realize just how much I’d missed this series and how badly I need to catch up.
