This was a fun book. There is action and mystery. I think kids and tweens will love reading about Bella's adventure. I am already planning to read the next one.

Twelve year old Bella lived with her mother, Emerald Street, the editor of a fancy fashion magazine, in a very nice townhouse in Manhattan. When Emerald had to go away for a few weeks, she organised a live-in Nanny to look after Bella. But the Nanny wasn't who she seemed, and trouble started almost immediately Bella's Mum left.

Bella and her best friend Felix find themselves in the middle of a scheme by Doc Gutson (who is posing as the nanny) and her side-kick criminals, to steal the secret formula of a new perfume, so Doc will be rich and famous. But things go from bad to worse for Bella, and suddenly she doesn't feel safe anymore. What will happen? Can Felix help Bella, or will she never see her mother again, with the evil and sadistic Doc trying to ruin Bella's life?

The evil criminal boss let the girl go out after locking her up and threatening to kill her. Nothing would have happened if the girl had gone to the police.
i liked the story and the characters but they were all a lil disnesyesque. you know the villain looked like an evil witch and was mean and punched her brother and called her minions names. the adults were oblivious and no where to be found. the professor was a typical charming but bumbling messy doc. it as a caper kind alike the old Disney "that darn cat" capers or Herbie capers. funny with a lil bit of danger and the kids are brilliant detectives. oh and it wasn't really a mystery. they told us at the beginning what they were after and everything. the only one in the dark was Bella.

I think tweens who like fun adventure mysteries will love this book.
My daughter is 9 and we were looking for a new book to read together. We really enjoyed Bella Street. It was one of the first mysteries my daughter has read and she loved it. Hoping there's a sequel.
To me it was barley a mystery but it definitely deserves a five star rating it was a great children's book and any body would love it kid or not
I loved the characters, their names, the story line. Felt like a kid again, getting lost in the story and thoroughly enjoying it. Much better than Ladies Detective series, more modern than Nancy Drew. Could easily be a movie. Writing was flawless - not too slow, every scene necessary, very suspenseful. Would not hesitate to recommend.
My middle-grade daughter is such a fan of the Bella Street Mysteries that I had to read this book. It's laugh-out-loud funny with a lot of scary thrills and a fun mystery to solve. The eponymous character Bella is a hoot with a lot of spunk to make adventurous girls cheer. I have to admit my favorite character is Emerald, Bella's mother. She cracks me up.

LOVE this series--and not because it shares my name. That's a happy coincidence.
